Laucala, Fiji, An Eternal Sunshine
The weather is becoming nippy, burning wood is piled up by the fireplace, peck coats and fur jackets are hanging on the coat rack, winter has arrived quicker then anyone expected.
Laucala Island has another agenda. In the ultramarine waters of northern Fiji, rests a haven to calm your shivers and replace your wool socks with smooth sultry sand. The 25-villa resort is set on nearly 3,000 acres of secret isle.
Don’t put away your yachts or worry about the weather cancelling your private flight. Either forms of transportation can be accommodated. The third largest runway in the country is awaiting your touch down. The adventures can begin with your yacht navigated past the 18-mile long, horseshoe-shaped coral reef that protects this mountainous landmass.
Scattered along the sugar-sand beaches, against volcanic cliffs, visitors can reside in one of the Laucala’s thatch bungalows, or bures. These heavenly homes come with it’s own pool, indoor and outdoor showers and outsized stone or wooden baths.
The amenities aren’t done, for the island is designed to pamper their visitors. A hilltop spa, a golf course designed by Scotsman David McLay Kidd, five restaurants, a fleet of 14 boats for reef exploring and an ample of made-made lagoon of terraced pools anticipates your arrival.
Only 15% of the island is covered by the resort, according to managing director Thomas Kilgore. Private picnics and riding horses can be arranged to your liking.
Laucala luxurious hideaway opened its doors in December 2008 and requires submitting an application. The recommended bungalows start at $30,000 a night. Let the winter season be as short as its days.
